Life science professional wanted to boost outreach for WHODrug Global

Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a non-profit foundation established in 1978 through an agreement between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Government of Sweden to oversee the technical and scientific operations of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring. Our pharmacovigilance products and services assist national regulatory authorities, the global pharmaceutical industry and other stakeholders to develop new medicines and vaccines and to actively monitor the use of medicines and vaccines already on the market. One of these products, WHODrug Global, is a drug dictionary used for drug coding of adverse event reports by several thousand pharmaceutical companies and Contract Research Organisations (CROs), among others, as well as leading regulatory authorities.

You will be a member of the Outreach team at UMC, which focuses on raising awareness of our products and services, engaging with potential new users, collaborating with external stakeholders and caring for our extensive user communities consisting of pharmaceutical industry, regulators and other stakeholders within life sciences. We work regularly with product management teams, the customer engagement team, our communications team, our WHO collaboration department, and other external-facing units at UMC.

As the Outreach Lead committed to managing and strengthening WHODrug Global outreach work, you will play a vital role in organising strategic and operational initiatives across diverse channels. Your responsibilities include effectively engaging and communicating with both current users and prospective stakeholders, in addition to close collaboration with our dynamic WHODrug user group. Furthermore, you will represent UMC and WHODrug Global at external events, establishing and fostering connections.

What you will do

- Proactively identify and lead outreach initiatives for WHODrug Global, ensuring alignment with UMC's mission and goals.
- Manage and nurture relationships within our extensive WHODrug user community, fostering a sense of collaboration and support.
- Work closely with product management teams to stay abreast of WHODrug Global features and updates, incorporating this knowledge into outreach efforts.
- Lead and coordinate launches and releases of new products, services or features within the WHODrug Global portfolio.
- Collaborate with the communications team, customer engagement team, and other external-facing units at UMC to ensure cohesive and consistent product outreach.
- Represent UMC and WHODrug Global at external events, showcasing the product's value and establishing connections with key stakeholders.
- Continually assess and refine outreach strategies based on user feedback, industry trends, and evolving organisational priorities.
- Manage all aspects of User Group events and webinar programmes, together with our event coordinator.
- Manage email campaigns and newsletters to effectively communicate with potential and existing users of WHODrug Global.
- Perform web updates related to UMC’s products and services.
- Create original content for event promotion emails, social media campaigns, print advertisements and UMC’s website.
- Assist with other activities and projects, as needed, within the Outreach team.

Who you are

- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences required; a master's degree is a plus.
- You have a proven track record in external-facing roles, with at least five years of experience in areas such as medical affairs or marketing.
- It is a plus if you have had previous experience working with WHODrug Global.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (minimum B2 level); proficiency in additional languages is advantageous.
- You have experience speaking in public.
- It is a plus if you have experience working in cross-functional groups, for example launch groups.
- You have strong organisational and project management skills with a systematic work approach, with an eye for detail and a commitment to quality.
- You are a self-starter with a proactive and collaborative work style.
- You are an effective multitasker with adaptability to changing schedules and have a results-oriented mindset.
- You recognise the importance of building and maintaining positive relationships.
- You are proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products and have experience of navigating Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, web Content Management Systems (CMS), and mass email sendout systems.
- You are open to stepping out of your comfort zone, undertaking new tasks, and expanding skill sets.


Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a centre for international service and scientific research in the field of pharmacovigilance. We are the WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring, and manage the technical and operational aspects of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring since 1978.

As a non-profit foundation, we support the World Health Organization, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders who share our vision of advancing medicine and vaccine safety. Through research and development of new scientific methods, we explore the benefits and harms of medicinal products for patients, and offer products and services used by health authorities and the pharmaceutical industry worldwide.

UMC’s official language is English. We normally apply a probationary period to new appointments.

UMC follows the collective agreements between the Swedish Agency for Government Employers and Saco-S and ST. Union representatives are Malin Zaar (Saco-S) and Jessica Avasol (ST), +46 (0)18-65 60 60.
