The Arena
AstraZeneca is currently making large investments to increase our research capability in Inhaled Pharmaceuticals, in Mölndal, Sweden. We are investing in new equipment, new technologies and more people. We now aim to increase the number of people working with Product Development for Inhalation by 50%. We therefore seek people with knowledge in various skills relevant for inhaled drug delivery, such as formulation science, analytical chemistry, solid state properties, device development and biopharmaceutical sciences.
AstraZeneca Mölndal is one of AstraZeneca?s three core sites for drug research, with about 2.500 employees at site. At Product Development, Sweden, a sub-division of Pharmaceutical Development, we focus on the fields of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases and on Respiratory, Inflammatory and Autoimmune Diseases. Within Product Development Inhalation we have an exciting pipeline, consisting of both new molecules and new devices. The unit currently comprises 80 people, dedicated to research and development for new inhaled drug products and we want you to be a part of growing our expertise in this area.
The Role
As a Packaging & Device expert, you will focus on turning good ideas into innovative, effective devices and packages that make a real difference for the end user, often the patient. You are an experienced device engineer for design and development of devices and corresponding manufacturing processes preferably with inhalation experience. You will work closely with Formulation & Analytical Science, Physical Science and Patent specialists within Pharmaceutical Development, but also with AstraZeneca Operations and external partners. More specifically, you will:
Provide expert technical direction, challenge and problem solving in device projects.
Make sure material selection for device parts is optimal
Recommend, gain commitment to, initiate, lead and champion new science and technology related to device development and manufacturing
Outsource design and manufacturing work and ensure quality delivery by setting agreements, specifications, reviewing the work and providing expert input
Initiate development activities in the device area; improvement projects, life cycle management activities and development of new devices
Lead R&D technical teams, teams involving both internal functions, Operations and external partners
Work with development of automated assembly lines for scale-up and commercial manufacture of devices
Patent and/or publish papers and reviews in internationally recognized journals, when appropriate
Participate in due diligence activities and lead feasibility programs for evaluation of new opportunities within the device area.
Provide regulatory knowledge in relation to device development and registration
Requirements
We seek a broad range of expertise in these roles. We are looking for you who are considered to be an expert in this area, have a PhD in relevant topics and we are also looking for newly graduates typically from pharmaceutics, chemistry, chemical engineering or engineering. The career level of the positions will be set according to the background of the applicants.
