Who you are
The Patent Department of Alfa Laval handles patent, trademark and design matters for the entire Alfa Laval Group.
About the jobWe work closely together with the R&D Departments of Alfa Laval from the first embryo of an invention to the finished product. You will be responsible for selected technical areas and is expected to independently handle all patent matters within these areas.The work includes evaluation of inventions as well as drafting and prosecut¬ing patent applications. Managing patent portfolios of in-house clients and counseling on patent law and practice, freedom-to-operate analysis and due-diligence are also major responsibilities, together with competitor patent surveillance and litigation. You will also be active in defending our patent rights and opposing those of our compe¬titors, in particular before the European Patent Office. Another very important task is a continuous dialogue with the R&D departments in order to provide good advice on patent matters, from early on in the development stages for each invention through the life of the product and patent.
Who are you?The Patent Attorney we look for is a European Patent Attorney with at least 5 years experience, having a suitable background with an academic degree within chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering physics or similar. Patent experience from both private practice and in-house industry Patent Department is an advantage.
Travelling is a natural part of the work and the work includes many international contacts. You should have good communication skills, and be able to use English as a working language fluently. Skills in further languages, e.g. Chinese, Italian, German or French, is an advantage.
As a person, you should be well-organized with good coordination and multi-tasking skills. You should be accurate, flexible, committed and a team player.
