Patents, trademarks and other intellectual property rights are vital and high-priority elements of Seco Tools business operations. Seco Intellectual Property is a function within the global Seco R&D organization. The function operates as an embedded part of the Seco development and product management organizations and is responsible for patent and design related matters such as protecting important inventions by applying for new patents, prosecution of patent applications, handling of disputes and general patent portfolio management.
We are now looking for a Patent Engineer, to develop Intellectual Property (IP) as a natural part of the business in a dynamic environment. Key performance areas
As a Patent Engineer, your main objective is to provide and support generation and management of IP Rights at Seco, and the overall responsibility covers the implementation of the Seco IP Strategy. You harvest invention disclosures and manage them, perform prior art searches and patentability analysis, and you assist in avoiding infringements and ensuring that new products can be launched on the market in cooperation with a Patent Attorney within the Sandvik IP organization. Some of your responsibilities include: ensuring that inventions and other intellectual property developed within Seco receive proper protection and attention; assisting in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and oppositions and freedom to operate investigations; and the enforcement of patent and design rights. You also perform and report competitor patent surveillance, arrange IP education for the business area and play an active role in the evaluation process.
As part of the Seco IP Management Team you also participate in different forums and run Patent Board meetings.

We are looking for someone with a Master of Science in Engineering, or other relevant academic experience. You have three to five years of IP experience from private practice, other industry patent departments, a patent office or similar entities. Knowledge of the patenting process, from idea to granted patent, and of opposition proceedings in at least one jurisdiction, is important, as is basic knowledge of IP enforcement and competitor monitoring. Knowledge of Ipendo Platform or equivalent IP management systems is considered a plus as is having successfully completed one or more parts of the European Qualifying Examination, or the equivalent. As we operate in a global setting, your English skills must be excellent, both verbally and in writing, while skills in Swedish are advantageous.
