Patent Unit Lund belongs to the Patent Development department which is part of the global IPR & Licensing organization in Ericsson with more than 200 people worldwide. Patent Development is responsible for building and maintaining Ericsson’s world-class patent portfolio with more than 60.000 granted patents. The organization is highly professional but at the same time dynamic and responsive, so it easy for the individual attorney to impact the way we work. The organizational size also provides room for the individual attorney to take on key roles in parallel with their normal duties as an attorney.
The site in Lund is an important R&D site for Ericsson with more than 1000 employees primarily working in research and product developer. R&D projects are often global in nature pooling the best resources, which means that the site is involved in a wide array of topics.
In this role, you will work primarily work with our researchers dedicated to contributing to the technical specification of 5G, 6G, and beyond as well as our portfolio of patents covering the current standard. You will work with a wide array of tasks directed to protecting and utilizing Ericsson’s inventions in view of Ericsson’s business. This will involve working in close cooperation with the R&D organization, your collegues in our global organization and other departments of the IP organization such as Strategy & Portfolio management and assertion.
Good attorney skills are a key to your work whether you draft patent applications, responses or claim charts. In-house prosecution is encouraged, and you are expected to prioritize to what degree you use outside council for ghostwriting.
What you will do
Capturing inventions and handle the life cycle of your own patent portfolio with a mix of tasks performed by you and outside counsel.
Participating in claim charting projects particularly providing advice on validity, relevance and scope of both Ericsson and third-party patents.
Investigating and supporting licensing and sales opportunities for Ericsson’s patents.
Continuously improve the ways of working within the above areas.
You will bring
Preferably European Patent Attorney, but applicants with substantial working experience within IP or with certification from other jurisdictions, will be considered.
Alternatively, you have a highly relevant technical background in ICT and a strong motivation to become a patent attorney.
You must be driven and curious to improve yourself and the way we work.
Good analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate cross- functions and drive projects.
Master or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field such as electrical engineering, applied physics, computer science, or ICT. Technical experience relevant for ICT is a plus but not a requirement.
Your written and spoken English should be excellent.
