PhD candidate in economics

The economics unit at the department of business administration and social sciences is looking for a PhD candidate in economics with a focus on energy and natural resources economics.


The focus of the economics discipline at LTU lies foremost within applied microeconomics with special emphasis on the analysis of raw materials and energy markets and the management of natural resources. This implies that the theoretical basis of the discipline lies within that part of economics, which analyses the behaviour of households, producers (private and public) and the economic relationships between these.

The recruited candidate will be working in an externally funded project and conduct research on the functioning and performance of electricity markets. You have an academic degree of at least 180 ECTS of which at least 90 is in the field of economics and interested in continuing with a research education. Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in both Swedish and English are required. You might have the opportunity to participate in undergraduate teaching. In an initial phase the project will end with a licentiate degree (120 ECTS) but will continue to a doctoral degree depending on performance and funding.


You will participate in an academic research environment with many experienced researchers spanning several subjects and topics. The economics unit has a close collaboration with other subjects such as political science, jurisprudence and history. Much of the ongoing research projects are multidisciplinary and have a clear international character. This will give you the opportunity to travel internationally, participate in conferences and work with international researchers from different parts of the world. You enjoy challenges and are driven by a curiosity to find answers to problems, wherever they might lead you. You are goal orientated and like taking initiatives.
