The Kristianstad University College is the knowledge centre of Eastern Skåne with 11 000 students.The activities are centralized in a modern campus with a wide educational offering: programmes, bachelor programmes, masters programmes, independent courses, commissioned education as well as vocational education.Committed behavioural scientists, humanists, social scientists, economists, engineers, health and physical scientists, all participate with the aim of creating a high quality education.In addition to the basic education, research and regional cooperation are prioritized areas.We also have a wide international contact network.(Dnr: 62/221-10) Project description Each year hundreds of thousands of gamebirds are farmed and released in Europe, but little is known about the effects of these release programs.This PhD project focuses on ecological and genetic effects of large-scale introductions of mallard ducks.Sweden is the main focus, but the project is part of a joint effort involving related projects in France, Italy, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic.The main duty of the successful applicant will be to pursue a PhD program in animal ecology within the project "Large-scale introductions of native species: the Mallard as a predictive model system".Field work will be done in several parts of Sweden, likely also in Norway and France.Techniques range from waterfowl censuses, ringing and sampling of live birds to telemetry of released ducks.The position is based at Kristianstad University College, but courses and seminars tied to the general PhD program are located at another Swedish university.Teaching at Kristianstad University College amounting to a maximum of two months per year may become part of the duties. Requirements and desired qualifications We are looking for highly motivated applicants with a degree in biology/ecology, preferably with a profile in animal ecology.The successful applicant must be qualified for admission to a PhD program in animal ecology (240 ECTS (hp), including 90 ECTS of courses in biology, at least 60 ECTS on the advanced level, and a thesis of about 15 ECTS or more).Experience in waterfowl ecology, limnology, genetics and identification skills of European waterbirds are valuable.English is the working language in the research group.Ability to communicate in a Scandinavian language is a strong asset, as are further language skills useful in the research network.A driver s license valid in Sweden is required.The holder will work independently as well as a part of a team. The position has a duration corresponding to four years of full-time PhD studies (teaching duties will prolong this period).First employment is for one year.Kristianstad University College implements a policy of individual salary negotiation (PhD bracket 21 000-22 000 SEK).
