The School of Life Sciences is seeking to recruit a PhD Student in Biomedicine Ref No.HS 2009/44-42 A PhD student position is available for a project with the aims of examining the correlation between miRNA expression and clinical stage, grade and outcome of prostate cancer.The project will be carried out at the School of Life Sciences (Biomedicine and Bioinformatics research groups), University of Skövde, in collaboration with the Centre for Cancer Research at Örebro University and Örebro University Hospital.The applicant should have a Masters Degree in the field of computational biology.The position will be managed by a cross-disciplinary research team working on cancer-related projects at University of Skövde, Örebro University and Örebro University hospital, using a combination of biomedical (experimental) and bioinformatic approaches.The aim of the current project is to study samples of tumor specimens from prostate cancer patients to discover miRNA markers for clinical stage, grade and outcome of the disease.The potential applicant should be familiar with various molecular techniques for gene expression analysis.Since large amounts of data will be generated within the project, the candidates should be familiar with computer science, statistics and bioinformatics.Experience in experimental design and data analysis is required.Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.In addition to PhD studies, the work assignments will include approximately 20 % teaching at the School of Life Sciences, the University of Skövde.
