PhD Position in Computer Aided Design related to Global Simulation Driven Product Development
Division of Computer Aided Design, Luleå University of Technology
Subject Area
In Computer Aided Design research is conducted in the field of global simulation-driven product development.
Post-graduate education in Computer Aided Design aims to give the student a broad knowledge of the subject combined with cutting-edge competence in an area of special interest. Examples of such areas are product development methodology, simulation-driven product development modelling, simulation of manufacturing processes and dynamical systems. Furthermore, the area of distributed collaborative engineering is also of great importance in the research of Computer Aided Design.
Applications are principally related to the development of new products, services and methods where the projects are conducted together with industrial companies.
Research Environment
The research will be conducted at the division of Computer Aided Design and partly in the context of the Faste Laboratory, a VINNOVA Excellence Centre at Luleå University of Technology (LTU). Our research environment is characterised by an open climate where national and international partners from industry collaborate. We are continuously improving our working environment to be attractive for female, male, Swedish and international researchers. We are convinced that an environment where all employees are active on equal conditions will lead to better results. To that end, our research environment has recently been redesigned and rebuilt to new specifications and it is now inviting, airy and full of light where opportunities for collaboration are improved.
Below, the division of Computer Aided Design presents one new research project and invites interested to submit applications for PhD position.
This project are conducted within the VINNOVA Excellence Centre the Faste Laboratory at LTU.
Simulation of Coupled Process and Product Modelling for Increased Availability, Ref.no. 346-09
The aim for this project is to develop new methods and tools for simulation driven design pertaining to industrial development processes on a system level. In particular you will work with coupling simulation of work processes with simulation of hardware product performance to increase product availability. Developed tools may be used as decision support systems as well as produce results which may be used in subsequent hardware based system simulations. The project is to interact with other new research projects at the division, most notably with the project Simulation Driven Functional Product Development. Your research will contribute to new methodologies for how the partner companies will use simulations in their product development processes.
Qualifications
The PhD candidate should have 240 credits of which 60 credits on an advanced level within Mechanical engineering, Applied physics, Civil engineering or equivalent. The candidates should also be good in written and oral communication in Swedish or in English. Knowledge of the Swedish language can also be of importance since part of the work will be carried out in close co-operation with industry.
