PhD position in Efficient Digital Implementation of Advanced Algorithms

PhD position in Efficient Digital Implementation of Advanced Algorithms

Arbetsbeskrivning

Join us in our endeavor to develop hardware implementation strategies of next-generation electronic systems.

Project description
This project is part of classIC (Chalmers-Lund Advanced Semiconductor System Design Center) which is a cross-disciplinary joint venture involving Chalmers and Lund University. At Chalmers, classIC spans three departments, viz. Microtechnology and Nanoscience, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering. There are strong links to all involved Chalmers departments as well as to Lund University in this project.

Hardware implementation of advanced algorithms - a cornerstone of our society - poses many challenges. We will address scalable implementation of next-generation algorithms that are key enablers in computing and communication, for radio networks, image processing, automotive systems, etc. Algorithms of interest include machine learning, error correction, detection/precoding, and information fusion, and system scenarios range from adaptive low-power edge circuits to throughput-oriented accelerators.

Major responsibilities
The person filling this position will participate in research as outlined above and will be spending time at all three departments, which will be essential to help cross-fertilize our work. Therefore, working in teams is an essential aspect as is “thinking outside the box”. The appointment offers an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 percent of working hours.

Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar, with a strong background in digital electronics design with emphasis on ASICs.

Required qualifications:
- Experience with ASIC design software tools, in particular design suites from Cadence and Synopsys, as well as MATLAB is required.
- Excellent team-working skills, presentation skills.
- Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Meritorious qualifications:
- Knowledge in signal processing and XR systems; teaching experience; and publications.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
