PhD position in Fluid Mechanics

Arbetsbeskrivning

A PhD position in Fluid Mechanics: Modelling and optimisation of the flow field in rivers for fish migration:
Up- and down-stream migrating fish mainly base their chose of path on the detailed flow field in rivers. It is therefore of highest importance that behaviour studies of fish is combined with comprehensive studies of the flow fields in rivers and that methodologies to optimize the flow field as to fish migration is considered.

Project description:
The work will comprise field tests in order to obtain geometry and flow fields for input and validation and modelling with CAD tools and Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) to solve the problem set-up.It may also involve methodologies with the aim to find optimal geometries for the fish migration.

Qualifications:
The PhD candidates should have 240 credits of which 60 credits on an advanced level within Mechanical engineering or Applied physics or equivalent. The candidates should also be excellent in written and oral communication in Swedish or in English.Knowledge about CFD is a merit.Knowledge of the Swedish language is also of highest importance since part of the the work will be carried out in close co-operation with local people and community.

The Division:
The Division of Fluid Mechanics is a part of the Department of Applied Physics and Mechanical Engineering and Luleå University of Technology. The student will work in an exiting and growing environment using the latest techniques within the area of fluid mechanics and with the possibility to develop contacts world-wide within as well industry as academy.
