PhD Position in High-Pressure Research on Nanostructured Materials
The Division of Physics at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) invites highly motivated students with a Master degree (or equivalent) in physics/chemistry/materials science to apply for a PhD studentship to carry out research on nanostructured materials in experimental high-pressure Materials Physics. The work assignment also includes teaching of undergraduate courses in physics/materials science and supervision of Master project students.
The Division of Physics at LTU has on-going research programs spanning broad research areas from theoretical particle physics and astrophysics to condensed matter physics/materials physics (biophysics, nanostuctured materials, surface physics, theory of superconductivity, band structure in semiconductors). The High-pressure spectroscopy group at the Division of Physics focuses its research efforts on synthesis, characterization and studies of physical properties of carbon-based nanostructured materials, in particular, graphene, polymeric fullerenes, carbon nanotubes and their composites at high pressure using a diamond anvil cell (DAC).The proposed project will be conducted in active collaboration with Carbon Materials group, University of Nancy, France therefore the successful candidate will conduct part of the research work in the French laboratory.
Northern Sweden/Luleå offers rich recreational opportunities including an archipelago, canoeing, fishing, miles of free lit ski trails/skating, and exceptional quality of life.Nearby national parks attract vast numbers of tourists throughout the year.
