Arbetsbeskrivning
We offer a PhD position where you will be exposed to the state of the art in terms of integrated communication and sensing, have the opportunity to be involved in large international projects, as well as projects with Swedish industry.
Information about the research/the project/the division
This position is a great opportunity for you to learn scientific and technical skills as part of a multidisciplinary team of leading researchers, with great importance for industry and society. The PhD position is placed at the Communication Systems Group, part of the Department of Electrical Engineering (E2) at Chalmers. The Communication Systems Group is known for its contributions to wireless and optical communication systems and has about 40 members from all over the world. Chalmers University of Technology is located in Gothenburg on the scenic west coast of Sweden. It is among the top research schools in Europe. The research environment is international and English is the working language.
Major responsibilities
In this project, you will perform cutting-edge research on combing machine learning and model-based methods for physical layer integrated communication and sensing, applicable to both wireless (e.g., 6G systems) and fiber-optical communication. Machine learning methods are particularly in focus, in order to overcome severe hardware impairments and to infer fine-grained phenomena in the sensed environment. You are expected to publish papers of high quality and collaborate with other PhD students and senior researchers in the team. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 percent of working hours.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of four years, plus teaching and other departmental duties.
Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or similar. Knowledge of digital communications and statistical signal processing, programming skills (Matlab and Python) as well as knowledge of mathematical analysis (probability, transforms, differential equations) is required. You also need to enjoy working in a team and have the ability to present scientific results in English, both in writing and orally.
Advantageous merits:
- Knowledge of optimization, stochastic processes, and other mathematical tools
- Experience in statistical signal processing, radar processing, or machine learning (deep learning)
- Experience of teaching, cross-disciplinary collaborations, international exchange or collaborations.
If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
