Arbetsbeskrivning
This PhD project aims to increase the efficiency when the components are separated from wood. As a PhD student in this project you will take active part in improving the usage of each felled tree.; which is necessary if we should be able to meet the global environmental goals with decreased carbon dioxide emissions. We are looking for top candidates with ability to combine deep fundamental theoretical research with practical development of new experimental methods.
Information about the research/the project/the division
This project is a part of Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC), which is a research center striving for scientific excellence with a focus on new materials from trees. The center creates knowledge and builds competence for an innovative and sustainable future value creation from forest raw materials. WWSC is a multidisciplinary collaboration between KTH, Chalmers, and Linköping University. The base is a donation from Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and the forest industry is supporting WWSC via the national platform Treesearch.
The Anette Larsson group works with lignin, and lignocellulose-based materials, focusing on how these molecules' structures influence their properties. This knowledge is essential if one should be able to change from a fossil-based society to bio-based society. You will be placed at the department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
Major responsibilities
As a PhD student in WWSC, we expect that you should take active part in the center, contribute with your knowledge to the other students and perform own research on high international standard. As a member of the Wallenberg Wood Science Center you will also have the opportunity to participate in the Wallenberg Wood Science Center Academy courses and activities, which take place at different locations in Sweden and the Nordic Countries.
Your major responsibilities are to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.
Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Material science, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering or Natural Science.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
