PhD Position in the Computational Complexity of Statistical Inference

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the the project
To meet the Swedish climate goals for 2045, CO2 capture technologies must be made available for a broad range of industries. The main focus in this project will be to develop a multi-pathway platform for CO2 capture and storage based on the tunable carbonate (CO32-) chemistry. This platform will utilize the residual streams at industrial sites, instead of a suboptimal ”one-size-fits-all” solution. Solid carbonates can either be stable minerals (to refill excavations) or unstable ones (for reconversion into CO2). Maximum conversion will be reached through a combination of iterative reactor design and computational fluid dynamics simulations. This approach will enable a pilot-scale demonstration and consequently a creation of a digital-twin for the CO2 capture system.

This project enables you to:
- develop a multi-pathway platform for CO2 capture and storage based on the tunable carbonate (CO32-) chemistry
- work closely with industrial processes and companies
- get knowledge on magnetic resonance imaging, reactor design, modeling and life-cycle analysis.

Major responsibilities
You will participate in research on lab-scale and work together with researcher from academy and industry on the development of resource and energy-effcient processes for CO2 capture and storage. You are expected to write journal papers and present the results at meetings.

The position as a PhD student is a full-time temporary employment that offers an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry.

Information about the division
This position will be located at the Chemical Reaction and Process Engineering division at the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering department. We have a wide range of experience and work both experimentally and with modeling. There is a also a long tradition of working simultaneously with fundamental scientific questions and applied problems together with the industry.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.

Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree in chemistry or chemical engineering or in a relevant field, corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits. Good presentation and collaborative skills is also a requirement.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
