The Polster lab at Chalmers SysBio is advertising a 4-year PhD position in computational medicine. The fellow will work in a highly dynamic research environment at the interface of medicine and data science. This is an exciting opportunity obtain and extensive skillset in data-driven in-silico research and focus on an important topic: Personalized and precision medicine in complex diseases. The fellow will be expected to independently develop new ideas and drive collaborations.
The project will offer training in a wide range of front-line computational medicine methods, and access to a variety of courses in the research school. Thus, this PhD fellowship will prepare for a range of academic, private and public sector job opportunities.
Information about the project and the division
The doctoral fellow will be expected to work on patient profiling and subgroup identification based on clinical and 'omics datasets. The aim of the project is to identify endotypes or biosignatures that are linked to differences in disease characteristics and trajectory.

The Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology at the Chalmers University of Technology is one of the world leading research groups in systems biology of metabolism. Our research interests involve a wide range of activities from understanding the fundamental operational principles of metabolism and studies of metabolic diseases, to highly applied research directed towards development of new cell factories for the production of valuable chemicals.
Major responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated individual, driven by scientific curiosity and capable to quickly learn interdisciplinary skills. The candidate is expected to actively collaborate with other members of the sysbio division and international collaborators, both clinicians and basic scientists. The work will comprise of systems and translational medicine as well as bioinformatics, statistics and applied mathematics.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must have masters degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in computational medicine, bioinformatics, complex adaptive systems, statistics, mathematics or a related discipline.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English.
Meritorious experience and skills:
Experience with translational medical research.
Experience with writing of scientific papers.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of four years.
