Arbetsbeskrivning
The need for the radio spectrum for the rapidly growing broadband access services is evident. Secondary use of already licensed, but poorly inefficiently used spectrum (Cognitive radio) has been proposed as a solution to make more efficient use of the spectrum. This project is within the European FP7 STREP QUASAR. The objective of the QUASAR project is to assess and quantify the "real-world" benefits of secondary (opportunistic) access to primary (licensed) spectrum overlay. Our part will be focused on radio frequency measurements. That is for example to define and verify the metrics for measuring the quality degradation of primary systems. Moreover, measurements will be carried out for assessing spectrum use over long periods of time by means of fixed spectrum observatories, as well as for gathering information on the spectrum use of space by means of either mobile measurements or arrays of measurement set ups. The project is conducted in cooperation with leading European Industry partners and Regulators. The doctorial studies aim to lead to a Doctoral degree within the subject Telecommunication at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The employment will be shared between Högskolan i Gävle (HiG) and KTH. The main employer will be HiG and the position is in Gävle at the Centre for Radio Measurement Technology, full-time. The primary task will be research and PhD studies, but teaching and/or administrative tasks may be included to a maximum of 20 % of full-time.
