PhD Student-Flow mechanisms in nano-fibre

Arbetsbeskrivning

Wallenberg Wood Science Center is seeking a PhD student to study flow mechanisms in nano-fibre suspensions with placement at KTH, Stockholm, Sweden Wallenberg Wood Science Center is a joint research center established with KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden and Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden, as participants. The annual budget exceeds 40 MSEK and at least 50 people will participate. The objective is underpinning materials research for utilization of our forests in new products, such as "green" polymers and biocomposite materials. The tree is viewed as a source of chemicals, monomers, biopolymers and fibers.Recent advances in nanotechnology, polymer science, biotechnology and mechanics are being combined with established forest products technologies in a new multidisciplinary research center located in Stockholm and in Gothenburg.Research project The new Wallenberg Center is seeking a PhD student to join the group of Fluid Mechanics. The objective is to develop processing concepts for suspensions containing micro-fibrillar cellulose (MFC).This will contribute to the development of manufacturing concepts for MFC-based materials giving superior performance compared to existing products. The work includes investigating flow mechanisms in a nano-fibre suspension. The work is mainly numerically oriented but will also include some experimental elements. The numerical work is related to the interaction between the fluid and fibres coupled to the overall fluid behaviour. You will be offered an independent role but in order to succeed in your research you will need good cooperation skills. Qualifications MSc degree in applied physics, mathematics, mechanical engineering or a related field, a specialization in fluid mechanics, experimental methods in mechanics or computational science is an advantage.Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is a must. We are looking for energetic candidates with an innovative way of thinking. You are a person who takes initiative, has problem-solving analysis skills and most importantly, who is able to work well with other people. To address its varied work, KTH aims to employ a diversity of talent and thus welcomes applicants who will add to the variety of the university, especially concerning the gender structure.Employment Form of employment: Time limited position Starting date: Immediately Application This recruitment is performed by Academic Work Recruitment, but you will be employed by Wallenberg Wood Science Center.Specify ref JJ35656 & K-2009-0163 in the subject line. The application shall include curriculum vitae, final grades, a short description of future professional goals and interests, and names of 2 references.
