PPhD student in Biology, specialization in Ethology
formally based at IFM Biology

Duties
You will work in a project dealing with the effects of early stress on behavior and physiology of laying hens. It will also involve analyzing epigenetic long-time effects in blood and brain of chickens. You will be a member of the AVIAN Behaviour Genomics and Physiology Group, which at present consists of about 30 scientists, technicians and master students. It is a vivid, international scientific environment, and the working language is mainly English, both in research and teaching.

As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited devoted to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies. For this position, you are expected to have a master exam containing courses specializing in animal behavior and physiology. Proficiency in scientific communication in English (both writing and speaking) is a strong merit. It is also a merit if you have experience of lab work within molecular biology and physiology. You should also have a documented ability to plan and carry out scientific work in an independent way. This can be shown, for example, by your master thesis project.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.

Starting date 
May 1 or by agreement.

Salary
The salary for PhD students is based on the department’s salary scale.
