Arbetsbeskrivning
Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.
About the department and the research project
Research in the field of Biomedical Sciences at LNU is performed within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, where strong research areas include virology and cell- and molecular biology, the focal points of the current project. The research group within which the project shall be undertaken is an integral part of the research environments present at the faculty.
The project is part of long-term interdisciplinary effort to understand how picornaviruses interact with the infected host cell, both at the entry level and during exit of the infected cell. The project also aims to characterize the mechanisms during virus adaptation from one cellular environment to another. The project includes laboratory techniques common in Virology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Cell Biology. The work will mainly be performed in Kalmar though visits to the laboratories of collaborators are expected.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a Master degree (240hp/240ECTS) in Biomedical Sciences or a subject area with a major focus of direct relevance for the project. Previous, documented experience of research handling animal viruses and using molecular biology techniques to study virus-host cell interactions are considered favourable. Furthermore, experience of handling animal cell cultures, cloning and expression of recombinant proteins and using real time PCR for studies are desirable, as is a good working knowledge of the English language. Basic prerequisites are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen), Chapter 5 and 7.
Terms of employment
The vacancy is a fully funded full-time four years appointment with the objective to obtain a PhD.
