Linnaeus University seeks PhD Student in Biomedical Sciences with special emphasis in Virology Linnaeus University has 25 000 students and 2 000 employees. As a Ph.D.student at the Linnaeus University you will find yourself interacting with colleagues in a very stimulating environment where curiosity, new-thinking and practical use are incentivated. For more information see: Lnu.se The School of Natural Sciences is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The research activities within this multidisciplinary school include the areas of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Organic Chemistry, Marine Ecology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics and Virology. The Picornavirus Research Group seeks one PhD student for studies regarding how picornaviruses adapt to different environments and interact with the host cell.Project title: Adaptation and host cell interactions during picornavirus infections The research project : The project aim is to understand how picornaviruses interact with the infected host cell both at the entry level and during exit of the infected cell. The project also aims to characterize the mechanisms during virus adaptation from one cellular environment to another. The projects include laboratory techniques common in Virology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Cell Biology. The student will interact with experts on animal models for virus induced diseases.Applicants should have a Masters Degree (240hp/240ECTS) or corresponding experiences in biology, microbiology or biomedical sciences.Documented training and experience of working with viruses or virus related projects are an advantage, as well as, knowledge in cell biology and a good chemistry background.Basic requirements for post-graduate studies are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen), Chapter 7.The PhD studies are limited to 4 years (100%) but may be extended to 5 years through teaching at the undergraduate level.Successful completion of the post-graduate studies will lead to a PhD in Biomedical Sciences with special emphasis in Virology. The starting point for the PhD education is negotiable. Mark your application with reference number 2010/2034.The application (in English) should contain a CV (with telephone, fax, and e-mail), documentations of exams and grades, a copy of undergraduate thesis, at least two letters of recommendation (with the authors telephone number and e-mail), a description of motivation and experiences relevant to the research project and any other documentation (including industrial experience) that the applicant would like to present.
