The University of Skövde is an expansive university that offers traditional and unique educational programs within a number of different areas.The University employs at the present time approx.500 people with about 11 000 students and constitutes an important resource for regional development.The University focuses on three thematic schools: Humanities and Informatics, Technology and Society and Life Sciences.Research activities are presently concentrated toward a few strong settings. The School of Life Sciences is looking for a PhD Student in Biomedicine Ref No.HS 2010/226-42 A PhD position is available to study molecular and functional significance of candidate cancer-related genes at the School of Life Sciences-Biomedicine, University of Skövde, in collaboration with the Department of Oncology, Linköping University, Sweden.The position will be attached to the research team working on colorectal cancer at University of Skövde and Linköping University.The projects are based on a model system of cultivated colorectal cancer cells and morphological study of tumor specimens from colorectal cancer patients.The goal is to identify specific expression patterns and interactions of the genes and proteins that are affected by aberrations at the genomic level in colorectal cancer.To be qualified to apply for the position you should have a Masters Degree in the fields of Medicine or Biomedicine or equivalent competence. The applicants will be ranked taking the following aspects into especial consideration: - Knowledge about radiotherapy and chemotherapy in colorectal cancer - Good knowledge about and experience from working with molecular techniques for DNA, RNA and protein analysis particularly in tissue array and cell culture - Familiarity with computer science and statistics since large amounts of data will be generated and analyzed within the projects - Experience in experimental design, experimental performance and data analysis - Good ability to benefit from doctoral studies - Experience in writing and presenting scientific reports - Good ability to cooperate and to work independently and - Proficiency in written and verbal English. Solely an applicant who is admitted to or is under admission to doctoral studies may be employed as a PhD Student.Employment as PhD Student may take place under the condition that the applicant is admitted as a research student at a University.For admission as research student the applicant's ability to benefit from doctoral studies will be assessed.The employment is time-limited to a maximum of five years and is a full-time position.Work assignments consist to 80 % of PhD studies and to 20 % of departmental work at the School of Life Sciences at the University of Skövde.Salary according to existing agreement.
