The research subject of Building Materials consists of a group of 19 people including five professors and one post doc. Subject description
Building Materials includes sustainable building materials and their application technologies, recycling and reuse, and applied building physics, especially focusing on the artic conditions.
Project description
The aim of the research is to develop a new generation of sustainable concretes suitable for shotcreting and cast-insitu, based on hybrid cements composed of Portland cement and either calcium sulphoaluminate (CSA) or Belitic Calcium Sulphoaluminate (BCSA) cements. Concretes should be optimized for the Swedish construction and mining industries. In comparison with existing solutions, the developed concretes should have enhanced sustainability, be easier to produce/apply, more robust and have a significantly better durability, especially in norther climate, in comparison with existing solutions as well as be economically viable.
Duties
As a PhD student you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work within your research studies as well as communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals. Most of your working time will be devoted to your own research studies.
In addition, you can have the opportunity to try the teacher role. As a researcher, you work as a neutral party in many contexts, which provides a great opportunity to be involved in challenging development projects.
Qualifications
You as a PhD student should speak fluent English, have a master’s degree in civil engineering, materials science, or chemistry. You should have a basic knowledge related to building materials and especially including cementitious binders and concretes.

Employment as a PhD student is limited to 4 years, teaching and other department duties may be added with max 20%. Placement in Luleå, Starting date according to agreement.
