Linnaeus University was established on January 1, 2010, through the merger of Kalmar University and Växjö University. The university conducts teaching and research mainly at the campuses in Kalmar and Växjö, but also at other locations in the region of Småland. The announced PhD student position in Computer and Information Science with specialization in Media Technology is located in campus Växjö and at the Department of Media Technology. The Department is part of the Faculty of Technology. 

Tasks

1   Graduate studies in the field of Computer and Information Science, in particular Media Technology, with a doctoral degree as the goal.

2   Research in the field of Computer and Information Science with a particular focus on the areas of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) and Web and Mobile Development.

3   No more than 20% of working time will be dedicated to teaching, tutoring and examination in Media Technology.

Qualification requirements

General entry requirements comprise a completed undergraduate program of at least 240 credits, including 60 credits at advanced level, or the equivalent knowledge in some other way in or out of Sweden.

Transitional provision: The person before 1 July 2007 to comply with the requirements for basic qualifications (bachelor's degree and 60 "old" points on the subject) for admission to graduate must also be considered to have basic eligibility for admission to postgraduate studies. This is valid until year 2015.

The specific entry requirements are at least a Master’s degree in Media Technology, Computer Science, Interaction Design or equivalent education.

Other bases of assessment

Good knowledge in the focused research areas of "TEL” and web and mobile development is a strong advantage. However, candidates who are strongly interested in these fields are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated working experience within the focused research and educational areas is a great advantage, e.g. within the following topics:



• Technology Enhanced Learning with a particular focus on the design and development of systems to support inquiry based learning

• Requirements engineering and design methodologies with a particular focus on the learning technologies domain

• Web and mobile development

• End user programming

 

It is essential that the candidate posses very good knowledge of the English language.

The PhD student is assumed to have capacity to conduct research within the described areas. Interpersonal skills and flexibility are of great importance since the work will be carried out together with a research group.

Weight between qualifications 
The basis of assessment for admission to PhD studies is the candidate’s ability to benefit from and to assimilate and utilize the content of the postgraduate program. Since the subject is male-dominated, female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
