Work description
According to the Higher Education Ordinance, a person appointed to a PhD studentship should primarily devote himself/herself to his/her studies, with a PhD degree as the goal. A PhD student may work, however, to a limited extent with education and administration. However, before a PhD degree has been awarded, duties of this kind may not comprise more than 20% of a full-time post.
New technologies, such as CPS and IoT, and advancements in networking, e.g., 5G, create the foundational infrastructure for a new world. Here, real-life objects can interact with each other and with humans to offer boundless opportunities to industry and society, e.g., Smart City, Smart Industry, and Smart Energy. This opens up for new opportunities, but also to new challenges. In such a dynamic and open system, "change" is the only constant; everything is connected and can suddenly appear, disappear, move around, and take autonomous decisions.
The "Engineering Resilient Systems" (EReS) research group investigates software engineering methods and tools for architecting, modeling, analyzing, developing, validating, and operating large-scale complex systems.
The PhD position's research objective is how Continuous (Model-based) System Engineering approaches can make software systems resilient and accommodate the change. Continuous refers to automated and never-ending engineering approaches. In contrast, System Engineering refers to holistic and multi-disciplinary engineering approaches that consider all the system constituents, the possible affecting factors, and the properties of interest at once.
The PhD student will actively participate in research and teaching activities at the Department and the research group. More information about the doctoral studies in Computer and Information Sciences, which includes Media Technology, can be found at:
