Work description

According to the Higher Education Ordinance a person appointed to a doctoral studentship should primarily devote himself/herself to his/her own studies. A doctoral candidate may work, however, to a limited extent with education and administration. However, before a doctoral degree has been awarded, duties of this kind may not comprise more than 20% of a full-time post.

The doctoral student will pursue graduate studies in the field of Computer and Information Science, in particular Media Technology, with a doctoral degree as the goal. He/She will also conduct research in the field of Computer and Information Science with a particular focus on the areas of the digital transformation of teacher education and the digitalization of the school system.

The exploration of digital transformations in the context of education, is an interdisciplinary field of research and development where engineering, educational and design sciences meet. This makes it possible to study and explore different educational processes and how to support them with a rich set of tools and methods in order to find answers to what gives value and efficiency for students and teachers.

Recently, official documents issued by the Swedish government have acknowledged the importance of how to support different learning processes with digital technologies and how programming and artificial intelligence solutions should be integrated in the educational system. These latest developments should be taken into consideration as they are central to this area of research.

The doctoral student will participate in research and teaching activities at the Department and will be actively involved in the national research school Upgrade – teacher education and the digitalization of the school system-. Upgrade is a national research school financed by the Swedish research council in which Linnaeus University, Umeå University (coordinating university), the University of Gothenburg, the University of Gävle, Halmstad University, Jönköping University, University Väst, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and Mid Sweden University work together within these fields.
