At the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering our students are studying to be for example innovators, entrepreneurs, illustrators, information designers, network technicians and engineers. We have five research specializations with different research profiles and research schools. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

PhD student in computer science with specialization in Industrial Communication Systems
Eligibility

A full-time employment as a doctoral student is attached to this third-cycle studies which corresponds to four years.
Position description
The appintment mainly involves research studies where the candidate independently, but with the support of supervisors, will plan and carry out scientific studies. The doctoral programme includes literature studies as well as empirical studies, scientific writing of articles and thesis, dissemination and oral presentation of research results, and attending doctoral courses.
As a doctoral student, you are expected to take responsibility for planning and conducting your studies, to take your own initiatives to develop your ideas and knowledge, and to be able to collaborate with others both within and outside the academy. Teaching or other assignments may be included in the position to a maximum of 20%
Qualifications
For basic eligibility, the following is required:
• A degree at an advanced level.
• At least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 are at an advanced level.
• Equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad through other means.
For this specific position the following is also required:
• A master degree or equivalent within computer science or computer engineering is needed.
• Strong interests in research.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and in teams that might be cross-disciplinary.
• Ability to establish and maintain contacts and networks with research partners in academia, industry, or other organisations.
Assessment criteria
Prior to employment, consideration must be given to the ability to assimilate third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education.
The following knowledge and experience are valuable conducting research in the stated topic, and will be considered as strong merits in the evaluation of candidates:
• Knowledge in Embedded Systems and Real-Time concepts.
• Knowledge in computer networks topics.
• Must have skills in programming languages such as C/C++ or Python.
• Must have skills in network devices, such as Ethernet switches and routers.
• Knowledge in security concepts for computer networks.
• Experience in writing scientific articles.
In an overall assessment of suitability, emphasis is also placed on personal abilities.
