Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology in Umeå 1 PhD student in the research education subject: Developmental biology Molecular analysis of transcriptional networks regulating cell division and dormancy in perennials plants A Ph.D position is open in the group of Rishi Bhalerao at Umeå Plant Science Center in Umeå, Sweden. This project follows up on previous work (Nilsson et al., Plant Cell (2008), Nieminen et al., PNAS (2008), Rohde and Bhalerao (2007) Trends in Plant Sciences) and is focused on elucidating transcriptional networks that regulate cell division in response to environmental and hormonal signals in plants. The project aims to identify key transcriptional regulators that control cell division in response to environmental and hormonal signals using functional genomics approaches. The role of the identified transcriptional regulators will then be analysed by modulating their expression by inducible over-expression and targeted down-regulation in transgenic plants. Qualifications The applicant should have a Masters degree with demonstrated experience in molecular biology and biochemistry. The applicant should have good communication skills and should be highly motivated and capable of working independently. Forms for funding or employment Employment as PhD student 4 years A person has basic eligibility for third level education if he or she has taken a second level qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second level. Those who met the requirements for general eligibility before July 1st, 2007, i.e.had completed a programme of higher education for at least 180 Higher education credits or the equivalent, will continue to do so until the end of 2015."
