Arbetsbeskrivning
Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world. The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.
Project title: Transfer of pigments and vitamins in the aquatic food web
The research project will assess how pigments and vitamins are produced and transferred in the aquatic food web. Focus will be on the functional role that zooplankton play for the transfer of these biomolecules. Several top predators in the Baltic Sea have been proposed to suffer from vitamin and/or pigment deficiency and the project aims to understand the factors regulating the transfer of these important biomolecules between trophic levels. The project will be affiliated with the Linnaeus University Centre for Ecology and Evolution in Microbial model Systems. Other grounds assessment
Documented evidence of research in zooplankton ecology, aquatic sampling and laboratory techniques, and experience of measurements in HPLC (high-pressure liquid chromatography) would be an advantage.
Applicants should also have sufficient knowledge of the English language to be able to read and write scientific texts. Driver’s license is an advantage.
The PhD studies are limited to 4 years (100%) but may be extended to 5 years through teaching at the undergraduate level. Successful completion of the post-graduate studies will lead to a PhD in Ecology with emphasis on marine zooplankton ecology. The position is located in Kalmar, Sweden.
