SLU is a world-class university in the fields of life and environmental sciences, with a strong commitment to excellence in research. At the Department of Economics, research and teaching are conducted in the subjects economics and business studies. The department has master's and bachelor programs in economics, and a PhD program. Priority areas in economics are 1) environment and natural resources  and 2) agricultural economics. The economics groups are in a period of renewal with two new professors and two new university lecturers. Duties:
The environmental economics group - see https://www.slu.se/env-econ - is seeking a PhD student to join our research team. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to study advanced courses in economics corresponding to at least 90 ECTS (three semesters), and to perform research in environmental and resource economics under the supervision of senior members of the group, culminating in a thesis after a total of 4 years' employment. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of either Professor Rob Hart on questions related to long-run macroeconomic development and sustainability, or Associate Professor Shon Ferguson, applying microeconometric methods in environmental economics.

Qualifications:
Eligible candidates must have taken a second level qualification or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second level.

The successful candidate must have a background in economics, or another field of study relevant for the position, with a strong interest in environmental economics. Good skills in English (both written and oral) are required. Emphasis will be placed on personal skills as team player as well as ability to take initiatives and work independently.

Employment as PhD student (4 years).

To qualify for education at the PhD level, the candidate must have complete their secondary higher education studies (Master's degree or equivalent) or at least four years of full-time studies, out of which at least one year at the secondary level. In those cases where the Master's degree diploma has not yet been issued, a certificate signed by the Director of Studies or a similar official at the univeristy can be submitted to certify your ongoing Master level studies.

The application must be in English and include a cover letter (where you expand on how you are planning to conduct your desired research), a curriculum vitae, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree (or other relevant scientifical work), copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, a list of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language.

The selection of highly qualified candidates will be based on their complete, written application and strong merits, their previous dissertation and other relevant achievements, personal references and an interview.

Please note that the applicant(s) who will be called for an interview will need to submit certified copies of the diploma and register extracts from previous studies at the undergraduate and graduate levels from a university, and that applicant(s) with foreign citizenship must also submit a certified copy of the page in the passport containing the photo and personal information.
