The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.
PhD Student in Environmental Science & Technology with special emphasis in Utilizing Microorganisms for Metal Recovery from Mining and Metallurgical Operations.
Project title: Bio electrochemical systems for metal production
The research project: This position is within a collaborative EU project proposing a sustainable alternative for metal recovery using microorganisms.
Applicants should have a minimum of a good undergraduate degree although candidates with a Master Degree (240hp/240ECTS) or corresponding experience would be at an advantage. Documented evidence of research in microbial fuel cells, bio electrochemistry, or environmental technology would also be an advantage. Basic requirements for post-graduate studies are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen), Chapter 7.
The PhD studies are limited to 4 years (100%) but may be extended to 5 years through teaching at the undergraduate level. The starting date for the PhD education will be in autumn 2014. The position is located in Kalmar.
