The School of Business, Society and Engineering (EST) has one PhD student opening for candidates with a background in Business Administration, in particularly management control and management accounting, as part of its research strategy aimed at supporting Mälardalen University in strengthening its leading role in the area of sustainability. Sustainability should, in this context, be understood broadly, as including, but not limited to, issues concerning migration, class, gender, diversity, ethnic and spatial segregation, social and political aspects of infrastructural change, citizenship, education, social responsibility of business, use of local resources, and sustainable governance among others.
The empirical work of the PhD student will be mainly focused on studying sustainability and explore relationships with other ongoing processes of management control and management accounting for example the digitalization of public organizations, business, and policy. The study of sustainability in relation to management control and strategy work and sustainability accounting are especially interesting. More information on the research in Industrial economics and organization can be found on University’s webpage under the heading “Research”.
Within the framework described above, the PhD student and supervisors will discuss possible interesting areas of research. Therefore, the PhD student:
• is expected to work with scholarly literature concerning sustainability and business administration – as it will be defined later within the research proposal - in relation to management control and/or management accounting questions;
• is expected to collaborate with other research projects on sustainability or other relevant research projects conducted at EST-Mälardalen University as well as with other Swedish and foreign universities;
In addition, the doctoral student is expected to have good written and oral knowledge in English. Knowledge of the Swedish language is a requirement.
The employment starts at the beginning of October or by agreement.
The position may include teaching or administrative duties up to 20% of a fulltime position in addition to the time for completing the PhD program, which is 4 fulltime years.
