LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as

PhD student in Materials Science, in particular thin film physics to be
formally placed at the Thin Film Physics Division at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM).

Duties
We are looking for a candidate to work within a large research project devoted to the development of multifunctional metal diboride thin films, synthesized by magnetron sputtering techniques. The focus is on enabling new paths for controlled growth of diboride thin films preferably at low temperatures. The synthesis work will be complemented by extensive property characterization of the deposited films.

As a PhD student you will primarily devote your time to research. Teaching and administration duties up to 20 percent of full time may be applicable.

Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

The applicant should have MSc degree or equivalent in physics, materials chemistry or materials science/engineering. Documented experience from Physical Vapor Deposition techniques like magnetron sputtering, thin film characterization techniques such as XRD, SEM, TEM, or XPS, and vacuum science are particularly meriting given the work description.

Fluent English spoken and written is required.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.

Starting date 
By agreement, but latest August 15, 2016.

Salary
The salary for PhD students is based on the department’s salary scale.
