Dalarna University offers research and education in Micro-Data Analysis amounting to some 70 researchers and PhD students. Dalarna University now enrolls PhD students to a PhD programme in Microdata Analysis starting in the fall of 2014. The position as a PhD student is full time and includes at the most 20 % of departmental work. The position is for two years with a possible extension of additional two years to doctoral degree.
Microdata Analysis is a multidisciplinary field involving collection, modeling, compilation, and interpretation of large data sets, together with underlying algorithms, methods, and techniques, as well as its application at decision making. The PhD programme gives broad general knowledge and attractive specialist competence opening opportunities for both an academic career and work in e.g. research institutes, management or consulting.
Position
The positions offer a regular full time employment contract as PhD student for a specified time period according to chapter 5 of the Swedish University regulations (Högskoleförordningen). Starting date for employment is September 1, 2014. The position will be located in Borlänge, Sweden.
The salary will follow the standard PhD student scale at Dalarna University, which starts at a salary of 24.575 SEK/month before income tax (roughly 31%). Social taxes, basic pension premiums etc. are paid by the university.

Qualifications
To be admitted to the PhD programme in Microdata Analysis, the applicant must meet both the general and specific entry requirements (see the Curriculum for postgraduate studies for details on qualifications). Applications from candidates who do not presently fill the qualifications, but will do so at starting day of employment will be taken into consideration.
Selection
The assessment of candidates is based largely on the quality of their master theses. We also value if the applicant is self-guided, structured and stable. The selection is also based on problem-solving analytical skills and ability to set and work toward high goals. As doctoral studies will be performed within a research group good interpersonal skills are also required.
