Linnaeus University seeks PhD Student in Microbiology, with specialization in Marine Microbial Ecology Linnaeus University has 25 000 students and 2 000 employees. As a Ph.D.student at the Linnaeus University you will find yourself interacting with colleagues in a very stimulating environment where curiosity, new-thinking and practical use are incentivated. For more information see: Lnu.se The School of Natural Sciences is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The research activities within this multidisciplinary school include the areas of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Organic Chemistry, Marine Ecology, Mathematics, Microbiology, and Physics.Project title: Bacterioplankton dynamics in a changing climate perspective. The research project: The Ph.D.study will focus on how key environmental factors favor the growth of specific bacterial groups or species, and which physiological features that allow particular bacteria to be successful in the environment.Studies of bacterial diversity and activity in the natural marine environment will be complemented by laboratory studies of both natural microbial assemblages and specific cultured bacteria.Analyses will involve state-of-the-art techniques in microbiology and molecular biology (gene expression analysis, cloning, sequencing).Bioinformatics will be used to retrieve information from genomic and metagenomic data.Requirements: Basic requirements for post-graduate studies are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen), Chapter 7.The PhD studies are limited to 4 years (100%).Persons with combined experience in marine microbial ecology, molecular biology, phylogenetic analysis and bioinformatics are encouraged to apply. The starting point for the PhD education is flexible and may be negotiated. Your application should arrive no later than May 7, 2010.Mark your application with reference number 2010/1990.The application (in English) should contain a CV, documentations of exams and grades, a copy of an undergraduate thesis, the name of two references (with telephone number and e-mail), a description of motivation and experience relevant to the research project and any other documentation that the applicant would like to present.
