Arbetsbeskrivning
Luleå University of Technology experiences rapid growth with world-leading expertise within several research domains. We shape the future through innovative education and groundbreaking research results and drawing on our location in the Arctic region, we create global societal benefit. Our scientific and artistic research and education are carried out in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has an annual turnover of SEK 1.9 billion. Today, we have 1,815 staff and 19,155 students.
In the coming years, multi-billion investments will be made in large projects in Northern Sweden to create a fossil-free society both nationally and globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these cutting-edge research projects and in the societal transformation that they entail. We offer a broad range of courses and study programmes to match the skills in demand. We hope that you will help us to build the sustainable companies and societies of the future. In line with the Green Transition and a sustainable supply of primary and secondary raw materials, our research in mineral processing is based on three pillars: material characterization (mineralogical and particle analyses), unit operations (comminution, separation, solids handling), and systems engineering (modeling and simulation, geometallurgy). Experimental work is done in our well-equipped mineral processing laboratory with access to cutting-edge instruments. In undergraduate education, we contribute to engineering programs like Sustainable Process and Chemical Engineering, Georesources Engineering, and Arctic Mineral Resources.
This project is connected to WISE - Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability. WISE, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and will encompass major efforts at Sweden’s foremost universities over the course of 10 years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science. More information about WISE.
All early-stage researchers recruited to the WISE program will be a part of the WISE Graduate School an ambitious nationwide program of seminars, courses, research visits, and other activities to promote a strong multi-disciplinary and international network between PhD students, postdocs, researchers, and industry.

Mineral Processing deals with the unit operations and processes for treating particulate solids, primarily metal ores, industrial minerals, and solid fuels, as well as residues and recyclable waste material and products from the processing industry.
Project description
We are looking for a Ph.D. student in Mineral Processing in close collaboration with the Materials Science division. The student will join an established research group to work on a research project on novel approaches toward green flotation and material developments for black-mass flotation and link to the recycling of the spent batteries.
Duties
As a Ph.D. student you will be involved in both theoretical and experimental work. As a researcher, you work as a neutral part in many contexts, which gives a great opportunity to learn how to run challenging development projects. You will be trained in scientific work to write scientific journal articles and present your work at national and international conferences. You will also both take mandatory and elective courses. Besides that, you will get the opportunity to try out teaching.
Qualifications
In order to be eligible for employment, you must have a master's degree of at least 120 ECTS in mineral processing, natural resource engineering, or other relevant programs. We expect you to have a solid education in mineral processing, with theoretical knowledge and practical experience of various beneficiation methods. Knowledge in froth flotation and mineralogical characterization are seen as merit. In addition, you must have good English language proficiency (oral and written).
