Dnr: 313-1121-09 The Department of Molecular Biology at Umeå University is a very research intensive environment - over 30 research groups actively work in the subject areas of molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, tumor biology and zoology.More information can be obtained at http://www.molbiol.umu.se.Project Description We are searching for a suitably qualified person to begin a PhD within a research group studying the genetic and molecular mechanisms by which pathogenic Yersinia bacteria control the expression of virulence associated properties.The PhD project will involve elucidating how two-component phosphorelay systems might contribute to these processes of virulence gene expression control.Methods you could expect to use in the project include: 1) Recombinant DNA techniques for gene cloning and disruption, 2) Assays to measure promoter activity (qRT-PCR, reporter gene fusions etc), 3) Assays to document protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions, 4) protein analysis with SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting, 5) non-mammalian infection models for physiological testing of bacteria.(Note: do not send your application to this email address!About the Position and the Start Date See http://www.doktorandhandboken.nu/english/ or http://www.teknat.umu.se/digitalAssets/15/15591_doktorandhandbok_eng.pdf The procedure for recruitment for the position is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (chapt.12, 2 ) and the decision regarding the position cannot be appealed.The position will be covered by a postgraduate student allowance (utbildningsbidrag) for the first two years.In the last two years of the position (doktorandtjanst), incremental increases in salary will occur according to a stipulated scale.The position may require teaching (up to 20%), which will lengthen the overall duration of the position.The position is scheduled to start on the 1st February 2010.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.
