We are looking for a PhD student in Perovskite light-emitting diodes (LEDs) at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (IFM).
Your work assignments
The PhD candidate will synthesize stable organometal halide perovskites with different bandgaps and fabricate efficient LEDs with different colors. The photo-physics of these novel materials and device physics of these LEDs will also be investigated.
Semiconductors based on organometal halide perovskites have shown great success in photovoltaic applications, demonstrating high power conversion efficiency over 25%. At the same time, they also have a huge potential for the design of functional materials and devices with new properties. For example, they demonstrate strong electroluminescence and tunable emission energy, making them a promising candidate for efficient LEDs.
Applicants are also expected to:
• Undertake the research activities described in the Project description of work and as requested by the Supervisor.
• Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
• Act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques.
• If asked to by your supervisor, take responsibility for specific equipment and laboratory infrastructure, including equipment maintenance, to enable the smooth running of the laboratory.
As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
Your workplace
The group led by Prof. Feng Gao is a young and fast-growing research group. The group focuses on solution-processed energy materials/ devices, mainly based on semiconducting perovskites and organic semiconductors.
Your qualifications
A person meets the general admission requirements for third-cycle courses and study programs if he or she:
• has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, or
• has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second cycle in a relevant research area, or
• has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad
It is an advantage to have prior experimental experience of what is described in the job description above—especially that related to materials/device development, device physics, and/or spectroscopy. Applicants should be highly motivated and have excellent skills in working collaboratively as part of a team. Applicants are expected to openly share information pertaining to their research with other group members and contribute to scientific discussions concerning their and other group members work.
Please include a Letter of Intent, specifying:
1. why you want to do a PhD,
2. why you are interested in this position, and
3. why you believe that you are qualified for this position.
In order to perform in the research environment, applicants should have oral and written English skills equivalent to IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no subscore below 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 90 (written, minimum 20).
Terms of employment
