Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics in Uppsala 1 PhD student in the research education subject: plant molecular genetics Genetic and molecular mechanisms of flowering time control Appropriate timing of flowering has a great impact on reproductive success of plants and on crop yield.Flowering time is controlled by multiple pathways that signal and integrate environmental conditions and internal developmental states.Much has been learned during recent years about flowering time control, but our understanding of the molecular players and their interaction in a regulatory network is still far from understood. We have identified a gene that encodes a chromatin-modifying protein and is required for normal flowering time control (unpublished results). Now, we aim to decipher the molecular functions of this protein and how it affects flowering time. The research group is currently located at ETH Zurich (http://n.ethz.ch/ lhennig) and will move to the SLU in October 2010.The department offers a creative and stimulating international environment, and is one of six departments that will make up the new cluster ?Uppsala BioCenter?at SLU.The research group and the department contributes to internationally recognized basic and applied science in plant biology; for more information visit the web page at http://www.slu.se/en/faculties-and-departments/faculty-of-natural-resources-and-agricultural-sciences/about-the-faculty/departments/department-of-plant-biology-and-and-forest-genetics/.Qualifications Higher university degree in molecular biology (Degree of Master or Master of Science) with emphasis on plant functional genomics, molecular genetics, plant physiology, developmental biology or corresponding topics.Document abilities to manage a laboratory research project are required.Documented lab work experience in plant handling, plant molecular biology, cloning, protein expression in bacteria, fluorescence microscopy and/or knowledge of bioinformatic tools is highly valued. The selection will be based on the written application, cv, diploma/exam work, personal references, good knowledge in English and an interview. Forms for funding or employment Employment as PhD student 4 years SLU is an Equal Opportunity Employer. A person has basic eligibility for third level education if he or she has taken a second level qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second level. Those who met the requirements for general eligibility before July 1st, 2007, i.e.had completed a programme of higher education for at least 180 Higher education credits or the equivalent, will continue to do so until the end of 2015."
