Department of energy and technology
Energy-efficient capturing of climate gases from ambient air
The Department of energy and technology, at the soil, water and environment (MVM) centre, offers a stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment with both national and international focus. Involved supervisors have extensive experience in doctoral supervision and the department has a well-functioning structure for the education.
Duties:
We are looking for a research student who can adapt and evaluate systems for energy-efficient capturing of carbon dioxide and methane directly from ambient air, in order to thereby contribute to so-called negative emissions of greenhouse gases. Methane collection will mainly take place from point sources in agriculture and biogas production, where reduced emissions would have extra valuable effects. The project is part of the Swedish Energy Agency's investment in graduate schools in energy systems and is carried out in collaboration between three doctoral students (at SLU, KTH and Uppsala University, Campus Gotland) with surrounding research groups. The doctoral student at SLU will develop system solutions for effective application of the technology and evaluate and improve its climate performance with the help of life cycle assessment (LCA).
The position refers to employment as a doctoral student with a view to a doctoral degree. The postgraduate subject is Technology.
Qualifications:
Degree at advanced level in technology or science with a focus on environment or energy. Knowledge in life cycle assessment, air purification, sorbents, agricultural systems and biogas production is an advantage for the position. The holder of the position must be able to communicate in English, and it is an advantage to also be able to communicate in Swedish.
