ABB Corporate Research Center in Sweden is located in Västerås, about 100 kilometers west of Stockholm. Together with our colleagues in other R&D centers, we develop technologies for future products and services of ABB's core businesses.
Even though wireless communication has been introduced to industrial automation systems for decades, the support of time sensitive services is still challenging in mobile and wireless applications.
Research questions:
The focus of the PhD student internship consists of proposing and evaluating extensions to the 5G/Wi-Fi technologies to support time sensitive services.
Deliverables:
• Proposal of improvements by novel features and methods
• Demonstrator of the proposed improvements
• Scientific publications
Practical arrangement:
• 1 position
• Start: August 2024
• Duration: 9 months
• Place: ABB CRC (Västerås), fully on-site
Your responsibilities
You will closely work in a team of experienced researchers, focusing on the specific challenges:
Do literature survey
Propose fundamental improvements and theoretical analysis
Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to compare the different options
Set up experimental testbeds
Explore and compare different architectures
Implement and demonstrate the improvements for selected test cases
Systematically evaluate the KPIs before and after the proposed improvements
Your background
Suitable for PhD student in computer science, ICT, electrical engineering, or other relevant subjects, with the following competences:
Good skills in programing
Deep knowledge about wireless communications
Good knowledge about automation networks
Other requirements are:
Strong interests in developing new practical skills
Good problem solving, self-driven, and a team-player attitude
Good spoken and written English
