Arbetsbeskrivning
We are waiting for a highly motivated researcher (PhD student) to join our team and develop innovative and high-performance electric machines for various applications. We constantly encourage individual growth in open-minded, diversified, collaborative, and positive working environment.
Information about the division
At the Department of Electrical Engineering, we see the value in all of our co-workers. We know that a variety of personalities and experiences makes the most creative workplaces. We therefore encourage applicants with any genders, backgrounds and abilities to apply for the position. We aim to create a positive impact on the development of society, environmentally, socially and economically.
We at the Division of Electric Power Engineering conducts research within a broad range of topics in electric power technology. Our purpose is to develop interdisciplinary research areas within the university as well as with external partners. Our research is based on a solid theoretical basis and extensive experimental verification in our laboratories as well as in the field. Research activities at the division are organized in two research units: power grid and components and electrical machines and power electronics.
In the research unit on electrical machines and power electronics, we are about 30 persons, of which two third are PhD students and about 10 seniors and postdocs. Our research activities are conducted toward five directions: (1) electrical machines; (2) PE converters; (3) energy storage; (4) charging technology, and (5) propulsion systems.
Major responsibilities
Your research work aims to explore the potential of high-speed synchronous machines for industrial and vehicle
applications. The research challenge of rotor robustness and integrity at high-speed will be dealt with by using FEM modeling and simulations in electro-magnetics, structural mechanics and rotor dynamics. Design iterations and optimization will be utilized to balance electromagnetic performance and mechanical stability. The theoretical solutions from simulations will be verified by experimental measurements on a prototype machine.
Our expectation on your contributions to the research topic and to the team is high. In return, you will receive excellent support from other team members and learn into your role fast. You are also expected to write and publish high quality academic papers based on your findings and research results.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, or other majors with relevant courses on electrical machines and electric drive systems, corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits.
- According to the program requirement on mobility, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, study, etc...) in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to recruitment.
- Comprehensive knowledge on electrical machines, especially synchronous machines and PM machines is required.
- Design and simulation tools like Ansys are used for modeling and analysis in prototype development. Therefore, the relevant skills with these or similar tools are required.
- Practical experiences on experimental tests of motors and drive systems are required.
- Knowledge and experiences on mechanical design, rotor dynamics, and CAD software are meritorious.
- Relevant industrial experiences are appreciated.
- Some work will be conducted together with other colleagues and industrial partners. The spirit and personal skill for collaboration are highly appreciated.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position will be 4 years plus extension based on teaching involvement.
