PhD Student Position

Department of Science and Technology, Linköping University, Sweden, offers a full-time PhD position. The department is located in Norrköping, approximately 45 km from Linköping.: Modelling, optimization, and simulation of wireless communication systems.
Workdescription:
The project is aimed to develop concepts, models, methods, and tools for planning and optimization of wireless communication systems, such as UMTS and next generation cellular networks, WLAN, wireless mesh networks, and ad hoc networks. The development of models and methods require a solid understanding of wireless communication technologies and advanced optimization theory. Applied research within the project involves performance evaluation of models and methods through computational experiments and network simulation, and forms the basis for developing network planning tools.

Utbildning/Erfarenhet
The selection criteria are as follows.

Essential:

. Basic knowledge in mathematical modelling and optimization / operations research
. Demonstrated skills in computer programming
. Fluent in English

Desirable:

. Knowledge in telecommunications
. Knowledge in network simulation tools

The PhD student is expected to conduct some duties in addition to research. These duties, among which teaching at undergraduate level is most common, correspond to 20% of full time.

The starting date is by mutual agreement. Please indicate preferred starting date in your application. The position is for at most 5 years. The contract is on an annual basis. Decision of extension of the contract is based on a yearly review of achievements.
