PhD student position: Economic analysis of new technology-based firms

The Department of Technology Management and Economics focuses on the interaction between technology and society in an economic and social context. Organization and management of business processes such as logistics, innovation, technology and product development, production and strategic change are key issues. The department has gathered its research in three target areas; Supply Chain Management, Operations Management and Innovation & Entrepreneurship.


Information about the research
The Division of Operations Management carries out research, doctoral and undergraduate education in the area of operations management. There are two research groups in the division, one in Engineering Economic Analysis and one in Operations Management, the former one focusing economic analysis and managerial economics. This PhD student position will be in the research group focusing economic analysis. The research will start as being part of a current research project at the division. The overall objective of the research is to explore the relationship between initial business models and business growth and other measures of performance in new technology-based firms. The project will be based on a large survey study with quantitative analyses as well as case studies with qualitative approaches.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as PhD student are to contribute to the results and dissemination of the project and to pursue your doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. The research will use both quantitative (the initial survey) as well as qualitative (the case studies) methodologies. Hence, you should have an broad interest in scientific methods.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years. You will spend about 80% of this time on research and maximum 20% teaching and other departmental tasks. You will be enrolled in the postgraduate programme and the research school Technology Management and Economics.  

Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree in a related area, corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits. We expect that you are highly motivated, able to work independently, and capable of engaging in close collaboration with representatives from both industry and academy. We highly appreciate individuals with high social competence who can contribute to a stimulating working environment. Finally, you need to be fluent in English, but also be able to understand and speak Swedish in order to accomplish the teaching part of this position. Note that you may be asked to hold a short lecture in Swedish if your native language is not Swedish.
