Malmö University offers 90 educational programmes and 500 courses.Most of our programmes are vocational and interdisciplinary, especially our multidisciplinary research programmes.We are committed to diversity in employment and take a critical approach to knowledge and the impact of globalisation.Malmö University has 21,000 students and is the eighth largest tertiary institution in Sweden.The education and research activities at the Faculty of Health and Society aim at contributing to the knowledge required to preserve, support and promote people's physical, psychological, and social health.Research is taking place in areas ranging from science, technology and medicine to social science.At the interfaces between them, exciting new areas for research are being addressed.Post-graduate study is currently expanding rapidly.Growing numbers of post-graduates are being enrolled, more scientific tutors and tutors with research backgrounds are being recruited.The PhD-student position will be placed at the Faculty of Health and Society.The research topic is "Biomedical sciences" and the Faculty examine Doctors of Philosophy (i.e, in swedish: Teknologie doktor, Filosofie doktor, Doktor i medicinsk vetenskap and Medicine doktor).The doctoral students will have the opportunity to take part in teaching (e.g., see www.mah.se/BMTmaster).According to regulations, teaching and administrative work is, however, limited to a maximum of 20% of working hours.Provisions on appointment as a doctoral student are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Sections 1-7.When making the appointment, under Chapter 5, Section 5 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, consideration must be given to the student's ability to benefit from doctoral studies.The topic of this research project is to design and investigate biofuel cells with possible use in biomedical devices.The PhD-student will fabricate and characterise electrode materials from nano and micro structures available commercially or synthesised at the laboratories of collaborating research institutions.On a molecular level, the work will be focused on establishing direct electron transfer between multicenter redox enzymes and the nano or micro material based electrodes.The PhD-student will carry out experimental studies to understand the effects of electrolytes and physiological fluids on the performance of biofuel cell electrodes.The major aim is to design biofuel cells functioning in different physiological liquids.The applicant should have at least one year Master degree (or at least 180 ECTS in basic education and 60 ECTS at advanced level) in chemistry, physics or biology.In ranking the applicants, particular emphasis will be put on knowledge and experience in electrochemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, and (bio)fuel cell technology.Ability to communicate in English, orally as well as in writing, is also highly valued.Applications must be submitted to the Registrar, Faculty of Health and Society, Malmö University, S-205 06 Malmö, Sweden, citing the reference number given above.The application should consist of a letter specifying the interest, a CV, attested copies of certificates, references plus any other documents referred to.To be considered, the application should have arrived before the application deadline.
