Arbetsbeskrivning
Dnr: 313-626-10 The Department of Physics at Umeå University has a staff of approximately 90 people, including 13 professors, 30 researchers/teachers with a PhD degree, approximately 35 PhD students, a technical/administrative staff of about ten, and several individuals in temporary employment positions such as post docs. The department does active research in the areas of interdisciplinary physics of complex systems, optical physics, condensed matter physics, plasma and space physics, and theoretical physics.A PhD position is available within a project titled Quantum information processing with ultracold atoms and molecules in laser fields. The successful candidate will be expected to develop theory and models for the simulation of trapped diatomic ions. These systems show promise for the encoding of quantum information, as an extension of trapped atomic ions, which are currently widely used for the study of quantum information processing. The research will include the application of laser control methods to trapped molecular ions. The Ph.D.student is expected to be able to work independently, as well as in collaboration with others, and to be skilled in oral and written communication.Candidates should have a good knowledge of programming. The application should contain a CV, including academic grades, a copy of degree project report and any publications, contact information for two references, along with a cover letter (one A4 page) describing yourself and your interest in this position. The recruitment procedure will follow the Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen chapters 5 and 7).Prerequisites include 240 ECTS credits (swe.Högskolepoäng) of higher education studies, of which 120 ECTS credits should be in physics, or equivalent competence.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.
