Information about the project and the division
Chalmers University of Technology is launching the project Optical Interconnects for Harsh Computing Environments, a 5-year project funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, and has a number of positions open for recruitment of PhD students and postdocs to the project. This position is a great opportunity for you as a PhD student to develop your scientific and technical skills as part of a multidisciplinary team of leading researchers at the interface of applications and science in areas with great importance for industry and society.
You will be part of the Division of Computer Engineering at Chalmers, which has strong research activities in computer architecture, embedded computing, computer networking, CMOS electronic design, and computer graphics. We are around 40 faculty, staff, and PhD students of a wide variety of nationalities. The working language at Chalmers is English.
Major responsibilities
Most of your time (60%) will be spent on your own research, and writing manuscripts for publication on the way to your own dissertation. An additional 20% will be spent on graduate-level coursework. Teaching or other departmental duties make up the remaining 20%.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or Computer Engineering, with good grades and a strong interest in electronic circuits. Solution-oriented computer-programming skills are also expected, as are good written and spoken English.
Courses in Integrated Circuit design, millimeter-wave design, optoelectronic circuits, solid-state physics, and laser technology are meritorious, as are lab experience with high-speed electronic and/or optoelectronic circuits; exposure to research projects in academia or industry; and undergraduate teaching.
