PhD student position in Energy storage for intelligent wireless sensors

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2) focuses on research, innovation and education within the fields of future electronics, photonics, bio- and nanosystems. A close collaboration with Swedish and international partners within academy, industry and society enables scientific excellence and creates an innovative environment. In addition to the 200 researchers and PhD students, MC2 houses a cleanroom for micro- and nanofabrication with state-of-the-art equipment.

Information about the division
In the Micro- and Nanosystems group of the MC2 we conduct research on the preparation of micro- and nanostructured materials in order to realise devices for a broad range of applications. A current focus for us is on energy harvesting and energy storage for intelligent wireless sensors exploiting nanofibrous materials based on carbon.

The project which now prompts us to find a new co-worker concerns the development of a supercapacitor solution for energy storage in a very challenging application - an autonomous pacemaker. In order to realize this device we will have to explore novel ways of fabricating and integrating our supercapitor concept with tough requirements on performance and robustness. Do you want to be part of taking on that challenge?

Major responsibilities
Your main responsibility is to pursue your own doctoral studies as a constructive contribution to projects undertaken by the Micro- and Nanosystems group. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. The appointment offers an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry. Included in your work is also to some extent taking part in the supervision and teaching of students.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of four years, plus teaching and other departmental duties. A monthly salary is paid. There are no tuition fees for PhD studies at Chalmers.

Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must be a Master of Science in Engineering with a profile towards physics, chemistry, electronics or materials. You need to be fluent in English and should be able to demonstrate excellent team-working skills as well as a high capacity to carry out advanced experimental work.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.

Application procedure
The application should be marked with Ref 20150099 and written in English. The application should be sent electronically via Chalmers webpage.
