Titel:
PhD student position in medical science - Biomarkers and novel therapies in glioblastoma
Diary id: PAR 2017/84. Project title: Biomarkers and novel therapies in glioblastoma. Job assignments: Glioblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumour in adults. The current standard of care consists of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy - however there is no curative treatment and survival remains poor. Glioblastoma is also a very heterogeneous tumor with various molecular subgroups that have been described. In this project on glioblastoma we will carry out clinical studies, and generate in-depth information about the tumor molecular profiles - and the response in cell cultures generated from the tumour. In this way, we intend to gain knowledge on the association of molecular markers to prognosis, which patients are responding to treatment and explore the mechanisms and functions of responsiveness to anticancer drugs in glioblastoma. Within this translational project, key expertise in neuro-oncology is linked between basic and applied science, allowing an optimal scientific environment for the candidate PhD student. The PhD student will be mainly situated at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center, in the Carén lab but with frequent contact with the clinical environment. The PhD project will use glioblastoma tissue collected at surgery and associated cancer stem cells that will be analysed. Methods that will potentially be used are cell culturing and generation of primary CSC cultures, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, quantitative PCR, DNA methylation analysis, chromatin immunoprecipitation, sequencing, data analysis and bioinformatics.
Eligibility:
To be admitted to third-cycle studies you must fulfill both the general and the specific entry requirements. The general entry requirements is fulfilled if you have: 1. completed a degree at a second-cycle level, or 2. completed at least 240 credits worth of studies of which at least 60 credits must be at a second-cycle level, or 3. acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad. The specific entry requirement is fulfilled if you have completed the English B/6 course or is considered to have acquired equivalent knowledge through previous studies.
