PhD student position in Plasma Physics

PhD student position in Plasma Physics

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the research/the project/the division
Astronomy and Plasma Physics (AoP) is part of the Space, Earth and Environment Department at Chalmers. The focus of the Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy research groups is to provide theoretical and modelling support to the worldwide fusion effort for the realization of thermonuclear fusion as a clean, safe and sustainable energy source. The main areas of our research are plasma turbulence and transport with a focus on scenario development and analysis of experiments. The research is strongly integrated in the international research activities, in particular the EU and the ITER program.

This PhD project aims at extending the modelling capacity for tokamak scenario development and analysis on current and future reactors by the inclusion of fast, surrogate or paramaterised, models of transport in the plasma including the edge. These models will be based on experimental databases and/or extended simulations and it is foreseen that machine learning techniques will be developed and used within the project.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as a PhD student is to pursue your doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts within the scientific framework and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing.
